Morse code

  • Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones and lights or clicks.
  • Recipient can understand the message without additional decoding equipment.
  • Dits /Dahs provides the code. Dits refers to dots and dahs refer to dash.
      • The below figure shows how Morse code will generate.
        • The below figure shows how normal text will convert to Morse code.
          Advantages
          • Simple to use.
          • Can be used by someone with disability too.
          • No power required for transmission
          • Narrow Bandwidth required
          • Easier to filter out background noise.
          Disadvantages
          • Cannot be transmitted or received by any person.
          • Maximum speed (20 WPM).
          • Not an up-to-date technology.
          History
          • Samuel Morse got idea of inventing a secret code language in 1800s when he worked with an electrical telegraph system.
          • In 1836 - Samuel Morse, Joseph Henry and Alfred Vail developed an electrical telegraph system.
          • Morse planned to transmit only numerals at first.
          • After that , Alfred Vail included letters and special characters.
