Waves

• Wave is an disturbance that carries energy through matter or space. Some of the waves discussed below.

Mechanical waves

• Mechanical waves required a medium to travel. Medium means something that something travels through.
• Sound travels through air, therefore, air is the medium.
• There are two types of waves transverse and longitudinal.

Transverse waves

• Particles move perpendicular to the motion of the wave.

Longitudinal waves

• Particles vibrate parallel to the direction of the wave motion.

Electromagnetic waves

• This waves that are caused by a disturbance in electric and magnetic fields and does not require a medium to travel through.
• Some of the electromagnetic waves are Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, Ultraviolet, X-ray and Gamma Ray.
